Members and friends of Dromara and District Sheepdog Society had a very enjoyable time at their annual dinner dance.
A spokesman for the society welcomed all present and thanked Mr and Mrs D Irvin for the use of their land, Mr Derek McMillan for the use of his sheep at the annual trials held last June, to the sponsors, those who placed adverts in the trials programme, to Mrs Fee for all her work behind the scenes, to Dromore Rugby Club and to all who gave gifts and donations or helped in any other way.
The Treasurer stated that over the last 10 years almost £17,000.00 had been donated to various charities by the society, and the highlight of the evening was the handing over of a cheque for £1131.00, the proceeds of the 2014 trials and the ballot and auction at the dinner. This duty was carried out by Mr Paul McElroy to Mrs Cunningham on behalf of Downs and Proud support group.
Mrs Cunningham thanked all concerned for their generosity to the very worthy cause and explained that Downs and Proud is a support group based in Lurgan for children with Down Syndrome and their families.
The group is parent led and aims to provide children with the opportunities and help they need to reach their full potential.
The group tries to ensure that parents receive adequate support and information to help them make decisions they may face throughout their child’s education and beyond.
Downs and Proud wants to raise awareness for Down Syndrome and therefore make it easier for children who are born with the condition.
Above all the group wants to ensure that the children are happy and they build lasting friendships.
