Springwell Texels gimmer reaches 2000gns at Hilltown

At the annual Northern Lights sale of in-lamb Texel gimmers at Hilltown Livestock Mart, a quality entry of tremendous sheep sold to all parts of Ireland in a very brisk trade.

Topping the sale was a choice gimmer from the Springwell flock of Henry and Robert Gamble. This was a much admired daughter of Obertown Usain Bolt out of a Derryvore Ranger dam.

Scanned with twins in-lamb to Henry’s new stock ram, Hollybee Volcano. She joins Ann Sloan’s flock at Kilkeel.

The Springwell flock also received 1200gns for a Foyle View Uncle Buck daughter, also in-lamb to Volcano, joins the Correnmore flock of John Leitch. A Cornerstone Tin Tin daughter also from Springwell flock reached 1050gns purchased by S McCollum in lamb to Volcano. Henry’s first run of gimmers reached 750gns, also for a Cornerstone Tin Tin daughter, in-lamb Volcano, carrying twins. She joins the Mount View flock of Paul Brown, Hilltown.

The Tullagh flock of John and Richard Currie came forward with a select pen of gimmers and reached 850gns for a daughter of Baltier Thunderbird, in-lamb to Tullagh Valhalla, selling to Mr Patterson. This was followed by two lots at 440gns each selling to William Herdman and Paul Brown respectively in lamb to Millbank Womaniser. The Glenhone flock of Martin McConville, Rathfriland, the youngest breeder in the group reached 600gns for a much admired Haddo Undercover in-lamb to Millbank Whiplash and carrying triplets, she joins a local flock of Jim Killen. Martin also received 300gns twice, for a Haddo Undercover and Teiglum Tornado daughters.

The Mullan flock of W and B G Hamthorn came forward with a well presented pen of gimmers and reached 540gn for a Bolt daughter. A Sweet Baltier Thunderbird daughter reached 500gns in lamb to Strathbogie Wanted, a son of the 52,000gns Mullan Vivaldi ran, selling to Alan Irwin, followed by 465gns for a Usain Bolt daughter selling to M. McMeel in-lamb to Bradley’s Underworld. A Usain Bolt daughter in-lamb to Garngour VIP (a son of Springwell Ulsterboy) sold for 400gns to John Wehrly, Co Louth.

Another Bolt’s daughter searched 360gns in-lamb to Langlamb’s Will-I-Am selling to the Oak Close flock of M Boyle, Newry. The Braehead flock of David Warwick travelled from Ballymena with a choice pen of gimmers and reached 380gms for a Glenside Ring-A-Ding daughter in-lamb to Strathbogie Wanted. She joins the flock of R Connolly, followed by 300gns twice, firstly for a Usain Bolt daughter in-lamb to Strathbogie Wanted selling to M Sloan, Killkeel followed by a daughter of Strathbogie Terminator selling to Mr Nicholson. A crossbred ewe from B Hamthorn flock carrying a pedigree embryo sold for 800gns to S. McCollum.
