Steady trade for sheep at Markethill

An entry of 1100 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 17th February sold in a steady trade for hoggets with cull ewes and breeding sheep trade slightly firmer.

Heavy hoggets sold from £90 to £95 each with the entire entry of 350 heavy hoggets averaging £92.40 each for 27 kilos (340p). Top rate of 373p was paid for 24.4 kilos at £91 each, followed by 372p for 24.3 kilos at £90.50 each. All good quality pens sold from 340p to 369p per kilo.

Middleweight hoggets sold to 387p for 22.5 kilos at £87 each. Good quality pens sold steadily from 360p to 383p per kilo.

Stores sold to 390p per kilo for 19.1 kilos at £74.50 each. All good quality stores sold from 350p to 378p per kilo.

The 120 cull ewes sold to £108 each. Main demand sold from £70 to £89 each. Plainer ewes sold from £50 to £65 each.

A full yard of ewes plus lambs met with a firmer demand. Doubles sold to £265 each with several more from £190 to £240 each. Singles sold to £170 each. Main demand sold from £130 to £168 each.
