An entry of 1050 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday, 4th May returned a steady trade for spring lambs and a firmer trade for cull ewes and breeding sheep.
The hogget trade is virtually over for this season with the quality of hoggets on offer falling away considerably.
The 350 spring lambs returned a firmer trade. Heavy lambs sold to £93 each with several pens selling from £88 to £92 each. The entire entry of heavy lambs averaged 25.2 kilos @ £88.40 each (351p). Top price of 374p per kilo was paid for 24.6 kilos @ £92 each.
Light lambs sold to 405p per kilo for 22 kilos @ £89 each. All good quality pens sold from 388p to 396p per kilo. The entire entry of light lambs averaged 21.9 kilos @ £84.70 (386p).
Cull ewes sold to £100 each with all good ewes selling from £80 to £94 each. Plainer ewes sold from £60 to £77 each.
A full yard of ewes and lambs sold in a brighter trade. Good quality doubles sold to £218 each with several pens selling from £180 to £210 each. Singles sold to £200 each, paid twice with all good turnouts from £130 to £178 each.
