An entry of 1200 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 24th February returned a strong trade for hoggets, cull sheep and breeding sheep.
Heavy hoggets sold to £96 each with all pens selling from £90 to £95 each. Top rate of 381p per kilo was paid for 24.5 kilos at £93.20 each. All good quality pens sold from 350p to 375p per kilo. In all, 480 heavy hoggets averaged 26kilos at £91.70 (353p)
Middleweight hoggets sold to 387p per kilo for 23.4 kilos at £90.50 each, followed by 377p for 23 kilos at £86.80 each. Main demand sold from 358p to 375p per kilo.
Heavy cull ewes sold from £75 to £97 each with plainer ewes from £50 to £70 each.
Another large entry of ewes and lambs sold in a firmer trade. Doubles sold from £170 to £230 each. Singles peaked at £170 each with several more from £130 to £150 each.
