Two lead Select Seven at 6500gns

This year’s Select Seven Texel female sale held at Lanark on Saturday (12 December) saw a brace of gimmers lead the trade at 6500gns, with the fist coming from Albert and George Howie’s Knock flock and the second coming from Gordon Gray’s Ettrick consignment.

Leading the way for the Knock pen was a Cambwell Rob Roy daughter, HAK1400650. This ET bred gimmer is out of a dam by Garngour Nobleman and sold with an index of 261. Going back to Muiresk Heir Apparent she sold having been AI’d to Cowal Vogue and from the same family as the 20,000gns Knock Oregano and the 12,000gns Kncok gimmer and the 10,000ns Knock Iron. This one sold to Edward Morgan, Blaencar, Sennybridge.

Meanwhile, pen topper for Gordon Gray was GGH1404109, a Sportsmans Unimog daughter out of an Ettrick Rainbow Warrior dam which is also dam of the 7000gns Ettrick Popeye and was fifth at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show. She sold having been AI’d to the 10,000gns Ellen Valley Warlord and was bought by Charlie Boden for the Sportsmans flock, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

After that came a 6000gns for another of the Ettrick entry, GGH1404067. She is a full ET sister to the 6500gns gimmer and sold with an index of 260 and having been AI’d to Hilltop Valhalla. This one found a new home with Robert Cockburn’s Knap flock, Muthill.

Chester-based breeder Robert Pierce then paid 5200gns for a Garngour gimmer from the Clark family CJN1403169. Sired by the noted Springwell Ulsterboy she is out of a dam by Strathbogie Smokey Blue and carries an index of 316. This one is a full sister to the 2015 sire of the year, the 13,000gns Garngour Vintage as well as the 12,000gns Garngour Vodka and sold in-lamb to Mossvale Winston.

Then at 5000gns was another of the Ettrick gimmers, GGH1404080. This one is by Sportsmans Unimog and out of a dam by Ettrick Rob Roy and is from the same family as Ettrick Spice Girl. She has an index of 247 and sold carrying to Ellen Valley Warlord and was bought by Graham Morrison, for the Deveronvale flock, Banff.

And making 4000gns was a Strathbogie Untouchable daughter from the same home, GGH1404197. She’s out of a Procters Samurai dam bred in the Strathbogie flock and has an index of 245. Sold in-lamb to Ettrick Sir Alan she was taken by Alan Blackwood for the Auldhouseburn flock, Muirkirk.

Gimmers from the flock of the late Jock McKerrow then took the next two best in-lamb prices, with a 3200gns call made for MDG1400838 from the Grougfoot flock. This is a daughter of Mellor Vale The One and is out of a Sportsmans Showman daughter. She has an index of 260 and sold having been AI’d to Castlecairn Vavavoom. This one was taken by Alistair Beatton, Wester Crosshill, Slamannan.

The other Grougfoot gimmer in the money was MDG 1400948, a Mullan Torrent daughter out of a Sportsmans Showman dam and in-lamb again t Vavavoom. She sold with an index of 327 and was also bought by Alistair Beatton.

In the ewe lambs on offer the top price of 3600gns was paid for one from the Clark family’s Teiglu flock, with this being CFT1503872, a Castlecairn Vavavoom daughter out of a Sportsmans Scout dam. Sold with an index of 247 she heads to Northern Ireland with Andrew Kennedy for the Maineview flock.

Then at 3200gns was another from the same home CFT1503891. Again by Vavavoom she’s out of a Strathbogie Smokey Blue dam and is a full sister to the first prize ewe lamb from the Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire. With an index of 355 she sold to Robin Orr, Halbreath.

Averages; 102 gimmers £1308.97, six ewe lambs £1960 (Lawrie and Symington).
