The West Belfast H.P.S annual charity day was held in the clubrooms on New Year’s Day.
Some 90 members and friends sat down to a fabulous roast beef dinner. The show consists of four handling classes with members and friends only allowed to enter one bird per class, so only the very best are entered.
Best In Show went to Mr Eddie Gilliland, a visitor who has been supporting the show for the last 20 years, (so not really a visitor). His winner of the Old Hens class was a beautiful CH PD Hen.
Best Opposite Sex went to Mr Ken Wilkinson, also a visitor to the show, winner of the OC Class. Best Young Bird in show went to the club show secretary Mr Barry Telford who won both the young bird classes.
After the meal the auction took place, with yours truly, trying his best to get the last pound. The club would like to thank all those who donated young birds for the auction, some 15 lots from the cream of the Northern Irish fancy, and one from Mr Alister Hogg (Sunny Lofts) in Scotland. This bird was a G/son of a bird that bred a 1st National Winner and a grandson was also 1st National in 2015.
After the meal the ballot for some 20 plus prizes raised £475 and a big thank you to Mrs Ann Freeburn who does a great job every year collecting the ballot money. Also a big thank you to Mr Sean Diamond who gave a free entry to the North Coast Classic One Loft Race. This free entry was also balloted and was won by Mr B Gilmore raising £200 in the process. It was then time to relax to the day’s entertainment. As usual it was top drawer as the group who were performing were nothing but “outstanding”. The four piece group performed as Showaddywaddy, then “The Rat Pack”, then there was “The Neil Diamond Experience” with the finale “The Rock & Roll Show”. The entertainment was out of this world and I would recommend this group for any pigeon presentation nights. The £2,800 raised on the day will be split between two worthy charities. So thank you all who sponsored show prizes, gave young birds, bought ballots and came to support a great day which is getting bigger and better every year. Thank you to the judges Mr P O’Neill and Mr J O’Hara for a great job, well done. Thank you to Mr G Douglas and Mr J Brown who travelled from Lurgan and judged Best In Show, Best Opposite Sex and Best Young Bird. Looking forward to 2016, Hope you all have a successful and prosperous New Year. Mr Barry Telford, Show Secretary.

The members of Titanic HPS would like to take this opportunity to thank Gregg Brothers & McCandless for the donation of four pigeons to help the new NIPA club on its way in 2016.
The birds were recently auctioned on Pigeon Craic and the massive sum of £1421 was raised for which the club is most grateful. The club would also like to thank New Kid On The Block as this would not have been possible without his help, also to the buyers: one from England, one from Northern Ireland and the other two were bought by a Dublin fancier. Thanks a million for all your help - it was gratefully appreciated – Titanic HPS
