A sheep and beef farmer from North Wales has had a well-received early Christmas present.
A tonne of Rumenco’s Maxx Energy licks have been delivered at the perfect time to help one flock get the most from forage during the winter months.
Richard Owen is a third generation farmer, based on their family owned farm in Anglesey, with a son and daughter who are both keen to continue the business. With a flock of 1,300 Texel cross mules, and a herd of suckler cows, Mr Owen farms on relatively good ground, only 150 feet above sea level.
Mr Owens attended a Rumenco farmers’ meeting organised through his local agricultural merchant, which is where he heard about the competition.
“It was a very informative evening, just straight talking and sensible advice. It opened my eyes to the potential benefits of using energy licks out at grass, and making the most of the forage that you have, especially at this time when we’re heading into the colder winter months.”
Blocks and buckets were already used as part of Mr Owens’ ewe management system.
“I normally use blocks a few weeks before I bring the ewes in, just to make sure they get the most from the grass available as the quality drops. But this year I’m going to be putting the Maxx Energy licks in from early November and I’m looking forward to seeing the difference they make.”
For this season, Rumenco are offering farmers the chance to win a brand new Nugent stock trailer.
“Rumenco is always looking for new ways to support farmers,” says Chrissie Smith, Rumenco’s commercial manager.
“As farm businesses grow and become more diverse and spread over bigger areas, the number of times stock are moved can increase and become more complex. And as farmers know, a stocktrailer is a vital piece of kit that they can’t do without.”
For a chance to win the Nugent LS126 12 by 6ft twin axle stock trailer, which is worth approximately £6,000, simply visit the Rumenco website www.rumenco.co.uk and fill in your details.
