The Gosford Area of Women’s Institute organised, in conjunction with Armagh show, a special class in the home industries section.
The theme for the class was “Tea in the field” and the compulsory items were soda bread, homemade jam and a tea loaf.
Marks were also awarded for presentation. There were various shaped baskets overflowing with the prescribed items plus more.
Other institutes took the interpretation of simulating a two foot square hay field with the required items tastefully arranged.
This proved to be a talking point with the public and caused much reminiscence.
Congratulations to the ladies from Richhill W.I. on winning with Salter’s Grange second. A special thank you to everyone who contributed with either items or even suggestions. The spirit of women’s institute showed profusely in this effort.
