THE Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) is holding a workshop for female YFCU members entitled ‘Growing Inspiration’ in conjunction with CAFRE, Greenmount Campus on Tuesday 19th March 2013 from 7pm – 9.30pm.

This workshop will introduce members to business opportunities in horticulture and floristry in Northern Ireland and briefly explain what training is offered at Greenmount.

There are great opportunities for those wishing to enter the industry and you are invited to come along to the workshop and find out more about growing and using cut flowers and plants.

Format of the evening:

* 7.00 pm Welcome and Inspiration for a Growing Business, Study Room 3, Greenmount Resource Centre by Caroline Mathers, programme manager horticulture and floristry

* 7.20pm Getting started – growing systems for flower crops with potential, Horticulture Development Centre by Dean McCoy, assistant manager HDC

* 8.00pm Designing with flowers – adding value to your crop by Anne Marie Grant, floristry lecturer

* 9.00pm Warm up over coffee in the cybercafe

There will be the opportunity for members to find out about production systems for three crops known to have further commercial potential (lilies, callas and stock) and for them to do some practical work on one of these crops at the Horticulture Development Centre.

This will be followed by a short floristry design demonstration before members have the chance to create their own design to take home. The night will finish off with coffee and details of where to find out more for those interested in taking their ideas further.

Members should bring warm clothing and wear flat or low heeled shoes with enclosed toes. Materials and equipment will be provided free of charge. There may be the opportunity for the group to visit the cut flower and other horticulture crops later in the year if desired.

The event is restricted to a maximum of 20 places. If you are interested in attending the workshop please register with Ann at YFCU HQ on 90 37 07 13.
