Lough Neagh Rescue (LNR) said they were tasked to Coney Island on Lough Neagh yesterday afternoon (Sunday) after the stranded pair’s vessel had mechanical issues.

LNR said: “Our lifeboat proceeded to Coney island and assessed the persons and the vessel.

“Due to the adverse weather conditions it was decided to take the persons off the island and bring them to the shore in Maghery.

“An assessment would be made as to if it would be possible to tow the vessel safely to Maghery due to the weather conditions and depth of entry to the shore.

“With the two persons brought safely to shore and handed into the care of the Lough Neagh Coastguard team it was decided that the vessel could be brought to Maghery also.

“Our crew proceded back to the island, rigged a tow and brought the casulty vessel safely to the shore in Maghery.

“The Lifeboat returned to base and made ready for the next tasking.”
