Busy few months for South Londonderry

South Londonderry Group has enjoyed a varied programme at the end of 2014 and into the first half of 2015.

In November, Wesley Aston, who is now the Chief Executive, gave a very informative address on CAP developments to members, with a question and answer session at the end.

On 10th December, the Group had its most successful social event yet, an evening of Food, Fashion and Fun with Jenny Bristow. 170 people attended the evening, which was enjoyed by all, however the most remarkable thing about the event was the amount raised for charity, with £3,450 going to a very worthy cause. Charis Cancer Care, founded by Jim & Valerie Beattie, is a local charity that offers support and complementary therapies for both the cancer patient and their relatives. Valerie said: “We are delighted to receive the support from this event, especially as we work closely with Jenny, who is a Patron of ours. The amount raised by the South Londonderry UFU was fantastic.”

Thank you to all who put in the hard work for this event, our members and those who attended on the evening to make it a success.

In February the Group had its AGM, which was chaired by Deputy President Barclay Bell. The journalist David Wright also gave an interesting address on topical farming issues. The Group wishes to welcome its new Chairman, Alastair Sampson, and Vice-Chair Ian Brown, who were appointed at the AGM.

We would like to remind members of the County Londonderry Charity BBQ being held in Limavady Showgrounds, Aghanloo at 7.30pm on Thursday 16th July. The event is in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, and admittance is by ticket only. Please contact the Group Office for tickets.

If there are any farmers in the Mid-Ulster area who are not currently members of the Group, but are interested in joining, please contact James or Garry at the Group office on 028 7963 2127.
