West Antrim in conjunction with Mid Antrim group had a very interesting and informative last monthly meeting of the session with Dennis Torrens on his experience in Saudi on a very large dairy farm.
The figures and statistics he quoted were staggering but also very impressive. Dennis’ presentation was most enjoyable and well presented.
The group wish to thank members, chairman and committee for their support throughout the past year.
Plans are in place for two UFU single farm payment workshops. The first is on Tuesday 21st April in 2nd Randalstown Presbyterian church hall and the second is on Thursday 23rd April in Kells Presbyterian church hall.
Both work shops will be from 9.30am to 5pm in 30 minutes slots.
Members who need help with IACS can ring the Toomebridge office on 028 7965 0644 to make an appointment to speak to Caroline Buick, UFU technical officer.
It will be first come, first served, so it is advisable to book early.
This year again we have planned a two-day trip to the National ploughing match in Ratheniska, Co Laois on the 23rd and 24th of September. The group will leave early on the 23rd, stopping for a comfort break on the way down, arriving late morning at the ploughing match. Accommodation for that night will be at the 4* Keadeen Hotel for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.
On the 24th the group will be at the ploughing match early morning and leaving at 5pm to travel home, stopping at Monasterboice Inn for dinner.
Price, which includes entrance into the show and use of a coach throughout, is £170. To go on the trip give your name to the West or Mid Antrim UFU as soon as possible.
As usual this year we also held our annual silage competition and the three winners are as follows:
Dairy – Messrs Willie & Fergie Hill
Beef & Sheep – Mr Jonathan Sloan
Big Bale – Mr George Currie
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who entered.
Finally at this year’s AGM, Mr George Kerr was elected as the new chairman and Mr Harry Millar as vice chairman.
