Mid Antrim Group of the Ulster Farmers’ Union have set it their task to shorten the winter months for their members by arranging a few social evenings.
A very successful rugby trip was run to the Kingspan Stadium, Belfast to see Ulster v Newport Gwent Dragons. This was well supported with no seats to spare on the arranged transport.
The group have been encouraged to make this outing an annual event.
Last week saw the group members dust off their dancing shoes and congregate at Glarryford’s Farmers Hall for what turned out to be a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment. Guidance was given by Dale Robinson to those who were brave enough to step up to the challenge on the dance floor. Jiving was the dance focused on and I think it would be fair to say that those in attendance had a more energetic meeting than normal with more glasses of water being drunk than cups of tea.
On a more serious note, come 19th January 2015 the President’s Area meeting will be held at the Tullyglass House Hotel, Ballymena, where Ian Marshall and the rest of the leadership team will outline the latest developments with CAP implementation and no doubt other current farming issues.
A few dates for 2015 diaries are as follows:
Tuesday 10th February will be the group’s AGM and also attending from AFBI Hillsborough will be a guest speaker on the topic of slurry safety and management. This will be very topical at this time of the year when slurry will be on the minds of most farmers.
On Tuesday, March 10 2015, Dennis Torrens, WMS evaluator for the Cogent group, will be in attendance to give an informative an insight on the Saudi experience.
The venue for these two meetings will be the Ross Park Hotel, Kells, at 8pm.
The Mid Antrim Group managers of the Ulster Farmers’ Union would like to thank their members for their attendance at the group meetings throughout 2014 and trust they can rely on the continued support in 2015.
All members are encouraged to call in to the office and collect the 2015 diary and year planner.
Richard, Alan, Robert and all the staff would like to wish all their members a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
