Lively address for NW Derry


NW Derry UFU Group has had a busy Winter Programme of speakers to date.

The first meeting was delivered by Dr Francis Lively, AFBI Beef Researcher and Joe McDonald, ASDA NI Corporate Affairs Manager who spoke about beef specification.



The topic for the second meeting was profitable sheep production for future markets which was presented by Tommy Armstrong, Sales Territory Manager Northern Ireland from Provita and Dr Jonathan Birnie, Head of Agriculture and Research for Dunbia.

The third meeting was about soil health and micronutrients which was delivered by Steve Townsend, Soil First Farming.

On Monday 19th January the UFU held a very well attended joint meeting with the Dromboughil and Benedy Farmers Group in the Benedy Community Centre Dungiven to discuss controlled heather burning and bracken control.

NW Derry UFU group would like to remind members of two upcoming meetings. The first meeting is the President Area Meeting on Monday 26th January at 8pm at the Lodge Hotel.

The UFU presidential team will be there to give updates on CAP implementation, price volatility and other issues. The second meeting, the final one of the Winter Programme is on Monday 2nd February at the White Horse Hotel, Campsie.

The speakers for the evening will be Richard Halleron, Agriland and Melissa Wylie, Rural Support.

With the ever increasing number of farm accidents NW Derry UFU Group will be holding a First Aid Course at the Largy Community Association 125 Drumrane Road, Limavady on Thursday 12th March. The course teaches the important skills and knowledge required to identify a range of first aid based emergency situations. Delegates will learn how to administer the relevant initial treatment in order to sustain life prior to the arrival of the emergency services. This is a practical course which is enhanced with video and theoretical sessions.

The course is delivered by an NFU Mutual Risk Management Services Ltd Health & Safety Consultant. Upon completion of the course participants will be awarded the Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate. NFU Mutual Risk Management Services Ltd is an Approved Centre with Qualsafe Awards who monitor the quality of their training courses.
