NW Derry UFU Group has had a busy few weeks.

On 21st June, 18 “Cycling Farmers” including NW Derry group manager Brian Prue, participated in the Giro d’Italia. The cyclists completed the 177 kilometres Gran Fondo race to help raise funds, with donations still coming in for the Farm Safety Foundation.

Brian commented: “Unfortunately there are very few of us who haven’t been affected to some extent by a farming injury so it is wonderful to be able to support a charity that has been set up to promote farm safety and highlight the dangers on farms.”

Next on the group’s agenda was a charity barbecue jointly organised by the Co Londonderry Ulster Farmers’ Union and CoLondonderry Agricultural Show. It was held in the main marquee at the Limavady Showgrounds, Aghanloo on Thursday 16th July. This event was in place of the County dinner dance.

Members were entertained by the fantastic All Folk’d Up. All funds raised from the barbecue will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Almost 300 people attended this event andNW Derry UFU Group would like to thank everyone for their support.

Finally, the NW Derry UFU group staff welcomed their members to the UFU stand at the Co Londonderry Agricultural Show. It was a very busy and successful day. The group supplied welcome refreshments and enjoyed the opportunity to socialise with everyone.

UFU deputy president Ivor Ferguson was also present to meet members and discuss current issues.

The winter programme commences on Monday 19th October in the White Horse Hotel, Campsie. Further details will be sent via text.
