Emmalee and Ice Man make fine comeback in Bailey Flexi-Eventing

Once again the Meadows Equestrian Centre enjoyed a sunny but cold day for Round Three of the Baileys Horse Feeds Flexi Eventing League.

This is an amazingly successful educational experience for all those taking part with a unique atmosphere and an excellent opportunity to try any, or all, of the three eventing disciplines. Dressage entries were again very high and we had to recruit an additional dressage judge to ensure that we completed on time.

Organisers were absolutely delighted to welcome Jeremy Spring to the judging panel for the Novice and Intermediate tests. Jeremy, whose successful riding career includes a European Championship silver medal, provided some very valuable comments and tips to those in his arena.

In the intermediate section he was most impressed with Charlotte Dixon and Zermie who had a run away victory, scoring almost eighty per cent with the fourteen year old gelding she received as a Christmas present just over a year ago. The runner up spot was taken by last weeks winners, Becky Cullen and Cassidy.

Andrew Greer, just home from his exciting trip to Las Vegan, took centre stage in the Novice class with Galdanagh, his eight year old mare by Camiro de Haar Z and also picked up a third placing in the Intermediate class.

Emma Jackson was runner up with Billy.

Tola Thompson from Newtownards gave a good account of herself in the Pre Novice class, judged by Harold Bunting. She had in excess of a two point lead over her nearest rival , Charlotte Dixon and Harrison.

Once again very large entries in the Intro class necessitated a split with Genny Belton taking charge of the ‘A’ section where Rachel Moore shone brightly with Country Strong, taking a three point lead over last weeks winner, Lynne Spence and KOM Limited Edition who shared second place with Jon Champion and Delilah.

Meantime in the ‘B’ section, judged by Fiona Morrow, Olivia Quinn stole the show in fine style on Rock Black & Blue, the Rockvale Stud bred eight year old mare by Builder’s Delight. Second place went to Lynsey Napier-Sneddon and Carsonstown Porsch who have been attaining consistent placings in this series, moving up from 6th place last week.

It was particularly pleasing to see Emmalee Turley in the placings in this class with Toni Donnelly’s 22 year old Ever Green Connemara, The Ice Man. Emmalee was making her first appearance in the arena following a serious accident last year.

Not only did she pick up a fourth dressage placing but the combination also gained a lovely double clear showjumping.

The showjumping judges were, once again, kept very busy and on their toes, judging both classes in the arena as well as the cross country going on behind.

Next week sees us at the halfway stage of the Baileys Horse Feed League so there is still everything to battle for as the £1000 prize money is carved up on the final on 4th March.

Dressage entries for this coming Saturday should be with Dora by 6pm latest on Wednesday. Text 07876758979 or email [email protected]
