Claiming the day’s top price was the supreme champion Inch Iota Dellia 2 (PLI £249), consigned by Inch Genetics based at Downpatrick, Co Down. Sired by Regancrest Altaiota, she is bred from Inch Mascol Dellia 3 ET (EX92-3E), who averaged over 11,000kgs at 4.62% butterfat and 3.04% protein in three lactations.

The champion was described by judge Nathanael McCollum from the 300-cow Bellemont Herd in Coleraine, as a strong heifer with great potential. “She has a well attached udder and will mature into a good cow.” Buyer was Raymond McCartney who manages the Patterson family’s Ballycrochan Herd based at Bangor.

Next best at 1,650gns was the unshown Balinvrensig Stonewall Mable from David Buchanan’s Happy Holsteins Herd at Newry. She was sired by the Picston Shottle son Cordes Maid Stonewall ET, and is out of Balinvrensig SRU Mable EX91-4E who is projected to yield in excess of 9,800kgs in her eighth lactation. This one was secured by Gordon Davies from Dromore, County Tyrone.

Securing the reserve championship was the second calver Ards Zenith O Ruth GP81-2yr from Harry Patton and Sons, Newtownards. She was sired by Regancrest Elton Durham, and is out of a home-bred Comestar Outside daughter. Calved three weeks and producing 38 litres she sold to WH McMurray from Banbridge for 1,170gns.

Holstein NI is indebted to Teemore Engineering for its continued sponsorship. Company representative Adrian Bates congratulated the prize winners and presented the awards.
