As usual, a fine turnout of quality stock led to some stiff competition in the dairy ring.

Tasked with selecting the Saintfield qualifiers for the 2016 McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship was Mr James Eccles, owner of the Riola Jersey Herd near Ballymena.

After careful consideration, James selected the Holstein Champion, Glenbrae Gerard Doris VG86 from the Glenbrae herd of David Dodd, Saintfield, as his first qualifier. Making her first appearance in a show ring, this second calver calved down in March and is currently averaging 48 litres/day at 4.2% Butterfat and 3.2% Protein.

James’ second qualifier was the Jersey Champion, Clandeboye Tequila Cookie VG87, from the Clandeboye Estate Herd, Bangor. This fine heifer calved in mid April and is currently averaging 24 litres/day at 5.25 Butterfat and 3.94% Protein. Her qualification for the 2016 McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship Final follows her success at this year’s Balmoral Show, where she was awarded second prize Heifer-in-Milk.

McLarnon Feeds would like to wish both qualifiers every success at the final of the McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship at Clogher Valley Show on Wednesday 27th July.
