Entries sought for annual Beltex cross-bred carcase competition
Organised by the Irish Beltex Sheep Breeders Club and supported by the Beltex Sheep Society, the event is sponsored by Dunbia and AB Europe.
With a total prize fund of £550 up for grabs the club is once again hoping for an excellent turnout on the day.

“This is primarily a pairs competition with farmers having to decide which of the live lambs are paired before weigh-in,” explained Colin Barnes of the Irish Beltex Sheep Breeders Club.
“It tests their ability to not only judge the fat class but the kill out percentage to ensure that the best matching pairs go before the judges.”
There will also be a cash prize awarded for the best individual carcase.
All lambs entered should be in the usual processor spec of 16-21kg dead weight.

The Irish Beltex Sheep Breeders Club are hoping for a good entry and an invitation has also been extended to farmers, members of Young Farmers Club and producers who would like to view the carcases following the competition.
“This is a very worthwhile exercise for those wishing to hone their skills in live sheep and carcase judging,” added Colin.
