Turkington build on a reputation for research and development

Local company Turkington Livestock Systems, based in Sandholes, just outside Cookstown recently featured on the front page of the UK industry's leading magazine Poultry World.

The article, showcased a site in Devon highlighting the company’s input. Business Development Director Ernie Lee says that it is a massive recognition for the company’s products and the service it offers: “Our presence in the GB market has grown significantly and we have just signed a contract to supply the country’s biggest poultry processor. The fact that Poultry World consulted us is an acknowledgement of the respect and position that we now command in GB.”

This is good news for Irish farmers as well, using their experience of a different market, Turkington have built on their reputation for research and development and continually improve their outstanding products for the local market. The company launched its Hypertherm broiler house just over three years ago. They have continued to develop it and in recent tests, carried out as part of a tender process for a major contract in GB, its air permeability and thermal performance were proven to be exceptional.

Ernie comments: “It’s the small level of detail, often unseen and often missed by the inexperienced eye, that makes the difference between a good poultry house and a great one. The Hypertherm house has a proven performance record. Its speed of build and exceptional performance make it the choice for the farmer who appreciates the long term value and innovative design.

“We are very much a local company, proud to serve the local market, and bring a level of professionalism that will help our clients get the best value and return on their investment. We continually develop our products, having recently upgraded our insulation to PIR which enhances the fire rating and improves the insulation even more. Our steel framed houses all carry CE mark certification, an important consideration when it comes to annual insurance.

“We can offer a turnkey package, which often reduces the build timescale or we can fit in to the project at whatever point suits our customer. No matter what:

l we appoint a dedicated project manager to every job,

l each job has its own erection team and

l when we start a job, we don’t leave until we finish it – no waiting around for the next subcontract team to finish somewhere else.

“We realise that time is money and with the accelerated build process that the Hypertherm design incorporates, many of our clients can populate their buildings sooner, meaning that they are earning money rather than looking at a building site. The build process for Hypertherm also means that the concrete floors are poured after the shed is erected, reducing the dependency on weather, a very important consideration in our climate.”

Turkington Livestock systems can also utilise the more traditional build format for a steel house which incorporates a built or shuttered wall, a system which they pioneered almost twenty years ago.

The company introduced multi-tier houses for commercial egg production in Northern Ireland some five years ago, a product that has now become the norm for free range egg production. Their GRP composite panel parent and grandparent houses, complete with pvc ceilings have taken the hygiene standards of these houses to a new level.

The range of buildings includes a complete array of poultry house solutions for all sectors of the market. Timber frame and steel portal, incorporating traditional timber clad, steel or grp composite panels. A bespoke design service offers the farmer the widest possible choice of building options, designed to suit his site and his business.
