Young Charolais breeders turn out in force to NI competition

The Charolais Club have a new sponsor on board this year Bovipast RSP with local rep Ian Graham.

The competition was followed by workshops with Ms Wendy Krope MRCVS of Strule Veterinary Practice doing a presentation to adults and youth.

There was another popular halter workshop attracting all ages. When it came to guessing the weight of the Charolais cow it was the ladies who excelled with a tie and Joy Balfour winning the coveted prize. Ten young people were selected to represent the NI region.

The UK finals is again sponsored by Weatherbys, and hosted as part of the National Charolais Show at Livestock Event, the NEC, Birmingham, on Wednesday 6th July.

Master judge, Ben Sinnamon commented: “These young people were faced with three classes, two of which were extremely challenging, however they embraced the job with enthusiasm using their skills to determine the correct results. You can see their confidence grow year on year.

“It gives me real optimism for the Charolais breed, as these young people are our life blood, and our future.”
