Ampertaine Jan tops Limousin females at 5,000gns at Carlisle

Following on from the bulls the day also featured the second production sale from the Ampertaine herd of James McKay, Maghera, Co Derry and the third production sale from the Procters herd of Procters Farms.

Leading the females at 5,000gns was Ampertaine Jan from within the offering of twelve heifers in all from the noted Ampertaine herd. The July 2014 Ampertaine Jan is sired by Plumtree Fantastic and out of Ampertaine Venice. She is half-sister to the 19,000gns Ampertaine Jeronimo and to the 10,500gns Ampertaine Jupiter. Jan was born in July 2014 and was knocked down to AJ Ewing of Dumbretton Farm, Annan, Dumfriesshire.

Two further Ampertaine heifers sold to 4,800gns. The first was the Ampertaine Foreman daughter, Ampertaine Lola, which caught the eye of W Corrie from Drumhilla Farm in Newtownards, County Down. Lola was born in January 2015 to Ampertaine Eloise and is a maternal sister of the noted Ampertaine Valhalla, which has bred numerous show calves.

The second Ampertaine heifer at 4,800gns was Ampertaine Janice, by Sympa. She is a November 2014 female from the noted Sharon family which has bred numerous five figure bulls. Janice was snapped up by Hampshire Livestock which is based at Huby near York.

At 4,200gns was another Sharon family heifer in the shape of Ampertaine Jade sired by Ampertaine Elgin. Born in July 2014, she is out of Ampertaine Gigi and travelled back to home turf after being purchased by M McKenna, who also comes from Maghera.

Two further Ampertaine heifers made 4000gns. The first was natural calf, Ampertaine Jackie, also sired by Ampertaine Elgin and out of Ampertaine Bernice. Bulls sold from this line include Ampertaine Hollywood at 8,500gns and Ampertaine Inspector, which was exported to the Netherlands. Born in August 2014, Jackie was another purchase from the production sale by Hampshire Livestock.

Another Ampertaine Elgin daughter in the money at 4,000gns was the November 2014 Ampertaine Joselyn, purchased by Tony Hartnett of Clonbonny, County Westmeath in Ireland. She is out of Kype Sky and is a three-quarter sister to Ampertaine Inferno, which sold for 16,000gns.

Foxhillfarm Jessica also went for 4,000gns, having been offered for sale by Michael & Melanie Alford, who had made the long journey from Foxhill Farm in Cullompton, Devon. Jessica is by Sympa and out of Corridan Chelsea. The heifer had been pregnancy-diagnosed in-calf by AI to the noted Ampertaine Gigolo and went to join the herd of GW Jones of Graig Fach, Welshpool in Powys, Wales.

Welsh buyers were also in evidence when one of the Procters heifers from the noted herd at Slaidburn in Clitheroe made 3,800gns, going to EE Davies & Co of Erw Pistyll, Aberdovey in Gwynedd. Procters Ivana is an embryo calf got by AI to Haltcliffe DJ. She is out of Ulna, a strong Mas du Clo daughter.

The January 2014 born Procters Juliet made 3500gns. Juliet is from the noted Greenwell Leiha foundation family. An embryo calf by Claragh Franco and out of Procters Eleiha, Juliet was sold to JB Holliday &Sons from Town Head Farm, Langwathby, Penrith.

EE Davies bought a second Procters heifer for the family herd; this time it was the 3,200gns Procters Jura, a Claragh Franco daughter born in March 2014 to Procters Germain. Jura comes from the Intruse family, which has produced bulls up to 9,000gns.

Bred by AD Bishop from Pitfield Farm in Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, Bishops Goldilocks went under the hammer at 3,200gns for Michael and Melanie Alford. The January 2011 Scorboro Custard daughter is out of Haughton Dodger, whose first calf, Foxhillfarm Jenson, went on to make 10,000gns. Goldilocks was bought by I Powley, Low Northsceugh, Armathwaite, Carlisle.
