The North East Derry Group ended its year with a family barbecue, held at the beginning of July at Gerard Torrens’ farm.

The night was a great success with 100 members enjoying food kindly supplied by WD Meats and David Millar at Choice Cuts in Garvagh.

The money raised was donated to Garvagh YFC, and we wish to thank all the enthusiastic bidders at the auction. The group also wishes to thank Gerard, Heather and Brian Torrens for providing an excellent venue and making everyone feel welcome. Thanks also go to the sponsors for the donations and Garvagh YFC for all their hard work.

The first group meeting of the winter is scheduled for Thursday, October 20, at 8pm at the GADDA, Garvagh. The topic will be Farm Business Investment and Ciaran Cunningham, Senior Program Development Manager at DAERA, will be the speaker.

NE Derry Cereal competition took place in July with the following winners: Winter Barley - first place: Robert Glen; Second place: Richard Dempsey and third place: Charles Acheson

Winter Wheat: First place, David Curry; second place, Richard Dempsey; third place: Mark McCollum

Spring Barley: First place, Charles Acheson; second place, David Curry and third place Mark McCollum

The presidential team - Barclay Bell, Ivor Ferguson and Victor Chestnutt - will be holding a meeting with the group on September 12 at 2pm at Mervyn Gordon’s farm. This will be an excellent opportunity for members to discuss any current issues with the team and we welcome all to attend.
