We where shown around their dairy unit followed by a tour of their recently operational AD plant. Both Donald and Kenneth gave a comprehensive insight in to how both businesses are run and how they support each other.

The group then went on to see Richard and Leona Kane’s farm near Limavady and their rape seed oil business known to everyone as Broighter Gold.

Leona explained the processes on the farm from sowing, cutting, drying and pressing of the oil seed rape. She explained the current demand for this product and how pressing and selling their own oil seed rape is benefiting their business.

The annual cereal competition was held earlier in the summer. The group would like to thank the judges David Bleakney and Jonathan Maye, from Burkes of Cornascriebe, for giving up their time to judge each of the competitions and to all those who entered.

The winners of the winter barley were Harold and Darren Reid, Eglish; winner of the winter wheat was Ian Loughrin, Dyan; and the winners of the spring barley were Alan and David Irwin, Drumflugh.

The group once again attended Clogher Valley Show with much welcomed refreshments supplied to members from near and far.
