YFCU welcomes Minister's funding announcement

The £150k grant will provide agricultural-related training and rural development promotion among young people.

Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster President Roberta Simmons commented: “We as an organisation are absolutely delighted with the news. This funding will allow us to continue to deliver programmes and measures to provide training and education to the rural youth of Northern Ireland.

“The YFCU is the leading representative group for young people in agriculture and rural communities in Northern Ireland. There are approximately 60 local self-governing clubs with 3,000 members aged 11-30 years.

“Activities of the YFCU contribute to building capacity among rural youth and offer a wide range of educational, cultural and social activities promoting involvement, commitment and education and training.

“This support will help to ensure that our farming industry and rural communities benefit from the skills, enterprise, confidence and citizenship developed by young people through active membership of the YFCU.

“Amongst the headlines in the new two year programme are agri-legislation, diversification, supply chain integration, qualifications, mobility and succession.

“In addition we will have projects looking at rural health and wellbeing, training and farm safety.”
