Over 100 tractors and roughly 20 cars were in attendance at the run itself, providing an amazing show of support for the school.
The event brought together families, local farmers, and supporters from across Ireland, north and south, in a visible show of solidarity for the future of rural education.
A spokesperson stated: “St. Malachy’s is more than a school — it is a cornerstone of the rural community. We want decision-makers within the CCMS to fully recognise the vital role that schools like ours play in sustaining rural life. When a rural school closes, it is not just a building that is lost, but a central part of community identity, connection, and resilience.
"Our school sits on an extensive piece of land that provides exceptional outdoor space for children: a pitch, vegetable patch managed by students, swings, play houses, and more. Outdoor space of this scale is becoming increasingly rare as small rural schools face closure, leaving many children with no option but to attend schools in towns or villages where access to safe, spacious outdoor play areas is limited.
"St. Malachy’s has been serving generations of local families since 1867. Its history, its setting, and its spirit make it irreplaceable. Our message is simple: our school matters, and our children matter. We are committed to ensuring that St. Malachy’s remains at the heart of this rural community for generations to come.”
