FFA holds milk protest outside dairy processor

Farmers For Action's Chairman and farmer David Handley from Monmouthshire led English and Welsh dairy farmers in a shut-down of large dairy processor Muller in Market Drayton on Sunday night.

The plant deliveries were shut down with farm vehicles from 8pm right through the night preventing delivery lorries from entering or leaving the Muller site.

Organisers say the protest took place due to Muller’s refusal to commit to paying their dairy farmer suppliers an additional 2p/l from 1st September when it is clear the market place can handle it.

A spokesperson said: “Currently other milk processors have Muller as the excuse not to increase their prices.

“Feelings are running high amongst dairy farmers throughout the UK as financial losses mount at the retailers’ and processors’ refusal to return a fair price to dairy farmers over the last two years. One thousand dairy farmers have left the industry in the last twelve months.”
