Kesh Young Farmers' Club turns 50

Kesh Young Farmers' Club brought their 50th year celebrations to a close with their anniversary dinner and dance in Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen on Saturday, November 11.

This event was greatly supported by past and present members with 260 in attendance.

The club were delighted with the turnout and the night was thoroughly enjoyed by all that attended.

The MC for the evening was Mr Wesley Atchison, a past member of Kesh YFC and a former vice president of the YFCU. He reminisced on his times in the club and gave members a few laughs.

The current club president, Sandra Beacom, welcomed everyone and talked about how evident it was in the planning and on the night of the passion everyone has for the club.

She mentioned the late James Owens, the first club president and paused for a moment to remember all he did for the club along with others who have passed away and contributed to the success of the club throughout the 50 years.

She thanked all those who travelled distances to be with the club and she said the club enriched the lives of many giving challenges, giving memories and most of all friendships.

After a wonderful meal the awards were presented by club secretary, Hannah Birney, assisted by George Irvine and club leader, Dylan Thompson, to the current members celebrating many successes and were presented by past members over the 50 years.

Mr Albert Knox presented the agricultural awards, Mrs Rosemary Barton presented the public speaking Awards, Mrs Ruth Ross (nee Armstrong) presented the floral art awards, Mrs Ethel Aiken presented the home management awards, Mrs Irene Dunn (the late James Owens’ daughter) presented the general awards, together with the James Owens Memorial Bowl for the most useful and cooperative member and Eva Baxter presented the Ken and Katie Adams Memorial Award to the person who welcomes new comers to the stage.

The anniversary cake was cut by the first club leader, Mr John Aiken and the current club leader, Mr Dylan Thompson along with the president, Mrs Sandra Beacom.

Mr James Speers, the current President of YFCU gave an inspiring address and Noel Baxter, a past member and former president of YFCU recalled key times within the club and recognised the current club and their hard work.

The club treasurer, Gillian Henderson, brought the speeches to a close with a vote of thanks.
