‘Need for economic stability’ during COVID-19 restrictions, says DUP MLA

A DUP MLA has reinforced the need for economic stability in light of the recent COVID-19 restrictions across NI.

Jonathan Buckley said: “Our economy is like an ecosystem, and each time we close down a section of it, it will inevitably have consequences elsewhere. As we pursue a path of lockdown, we risk undoing the progress made in building a strong economy for workers and their families.

“I am pleased that further support packages will be announced this week for the self-employed and specific industries that are under intense pressure at this period.

“However, whilst this is welcome news to many, going forward we must bear cognisance that lockdowns and intensified restrictions jeopardise the economic viability of Northern Ireland.
