Over 52,000 people attended the RHS with key highlights for visitors including Wool Handling, Sheep Shearing, The Scottish Dairy Goat Championships and a Mini Major equestrian competition which sees a relay-style event where young, amateur ‘mini’ riders are paired up with senior, elite ‘major’ professionals.
The Friday of the Show also saw the Scottish Dairy Championship winners announced. The Championships celebrate Scotland's finest dairy producers, featuring competitive judging and gold, silver, and bronze awards across cheese, butter, ice cream, milk, cream and cultured produce.
Judged by celebrity TV chef Tony Singh, the overall Dairy Champion was awarded to Temon Farm Milk Barn in Cumbria for their FFMB (Fat Filled Milk Powder) while Milk and reserve went to Katy Rodgers Artisan Dairy in Glasgow with their Créme Fraiche.
David Tennant, Head of Show for RHASS, said: "Despite the wet weather experienced for much of Friday’s Show, spirits were certainly not dampened and we saw over 52,000 people through the gates of the Royal Highland Centre.
“We look forward to another fantastic day tomorrow with some brighter weather and even better spirits after Scotland brings home the win tonight! There will be no better way to celebrate than by seeing Dougie MacLean perform Caledonia live at The Reeling tomorrow.
“A true celebration of Scotland’s rich musical heritage, we’re delighted to be partnering with the festival for the first time, to bring some of the country’s finest traditional acts including Breabach, Dlù, Elephant Sessions, Kinnaris Q and Skipinnish, together at the Royal Highland Centre, alongside Dougie. We look forward to seeing you all there.”
