Royal Highland Show sets the stage for vibrant musical line up

Organisers of the Royal Highland Show have announced the vibrant musical line up for this year's event at the Royal Highland Centre (23-26 June) where the cream of live entertainment and music is set to feature along the best of farming, food and rural life.

Following sell out tours, the UK’s top Abba tribute band, Abba Gold, will bring high platforms, flares and sparkle to the Show, delivering crowd favourites such as Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Dancing Queen when they take to the West Stage on Saturday 25 June.

2016 will see the Show welcome innovative and engaging talent from across the country, such as: Vardo Gypsy Swing, who evoke sounds of 1930’s and 1950s dancehalls; Scottish Dance Band of the Year 2013, Trail West; Opera Ecosse, a quartet of talented operatic singers; and the Ricky Macleod Kids Show, a popular magician celebrating 20 years of showmanship - four times crowned ‘Children’s Entertainer of the Year.”

As always, traditional pipes and drums will take pride of place at the Show. The Royal British Legion Band (Scotland) and Scots Guards Association Pipe Band will be performing the traditional President’s Salute in the Main Ring on Sunday afternoon, bringing with them a grand sense of showmanship and historic tradition to the event.

Regional talent such as The Broxburn and Livingston Brass Band, Clackmannan District Brass Band, Drake Music School, Edinburgh Scout and Guide Gang Show, Edinburgh Soul Choir, North Sea Gas, and representing RHS ‘host’ area Strathclyde North and South Ayrshire Schools and Stewarton Academy Senior Wind Ensemble will also be gracing the Show’s stages.

Returning to their “spiritual home”, the extremely popular Farmers and Farmers Wives Choir will treat showgoers to new songs whilst under direction of their talented conductor, Kate Picken.

Ian Muir Ceilidh Band always get feet tapping at the Show with their jigs and reels, while stars of Celtic Connections - Dallahan make a first appearance and bring a mix of Irish, Scottish and Hungarian music.

Commenting on the musical line up, David Jackson, Show Manager said: “From traditional Scottish sounds to those from a bit further afield, the Royal Highland Show is again ready to showcase some of the best performers and unique entertainment. With great acts spread across the four days, all visitors should be able to take advantage of the wide range of culture and entertainment offered.”
