The company which runs and plans the electricity grid in Northern Ireland is also responsible for the proposed North South Interconnector, an application for which is currently with the planning authorities.

To support the North South Interconnector and its other Grid Development projects, SONI is opening its Armagh information office to the public.

The office at 16 Russell Street, will be staffed by members of the SONI Grid Development team, as Shane Brennan, Project Manager of the North South Interconnector, explains: “This is about having a place that members of the community, landowners and local business can come to find out about the North South Interconnector proposals.

“We understand that some people have concerns and we want them to know that our experts are available to them; we are here to answer questions, to provide information and in doing so we hope to allay those concerns.

“This is a permanent office here in the centre of Armagh; we want it to be used; we want to continue to engage in constructive dialogue with the community.

“Our goal is to build a working relationship built on mutual trust and respect and being available to the local community is a key part of that.”

The SONI information office will be open to the public every Wednesday between 12 noon and 7pm; in addition appointments can be made for the rest of the week, by emailing [email protected].

For landowners and members of the agricultural community; meetings can be facilitated in the Armagh office with SONI’s Agricultural Liaison Officer, Fergal Keenan.

Contact Fergal directly at 07966930844 or by emailing [email protected].

The office will remain open up to and throughout the public inquiry into the North South Interconnector, which is expected to take place on 21st June at the Armagh City Hotel.
