Birds romp home from Corrin race

For the third race of the year the NIPA birds were in Corrin and with poor weather forecast for later on Saturday an early liberation was predicted at race marking on Friday.

That’s exactly as it turned out and 24,000 odd birds were liberated at 7.35am in a helping southerly wind.

The birds romped home and early arrivals were reported across most of the country from Portadown up to Londonderry. Best of all was Nelson Weir of Loughgall who recorded velocity 2016ypm, well clear of winners in Edgarstown, Portadown & Drumcree, Derry & District and Ballymoney HPS.

Eddie made it three from three this week with a lovely blue cock bred by R G & G Donaldson Portadown, this bird was 1st club, 2nd Foyle Valley combine, 7th section, & 37th Open from 24,284 pigeons this week. Eddie had another pigeon that was 15th section, 82nd open and a further two in section result, The members of the club had a good race with Eddie, David Devine, Raymond Monteith, Dessie Mullan and Raymond McBride all taking section and open positions, very well done to all in the result.

Her sire was Van de Brande purchased from A & R McAuley and the dam is Lambrecht from Nigel Laycock. A full sister won 1st Sect B from Fermoy in 2017, and last season 2019 a brother of the hens won 1st Club in Ballymoney from Roscrea, what a breeding and racing line here.

Fast race after early liberation at Corrin

Corrin in Co Cork was the venue for the third race of the season. Birds were liberated on Saturday 20th June at 07.35am and a fast race was expected.

Best local bird was clocked by last year’s Talbenny YB National winner Bertie Blair of Ballymena & Dist. His winning two year old blue chequer Van Den Bulck widowhood cock was timed at 10.42am for the 207 mile fly to the Chichester Park lofts. This gift bird from good friend Lexie Mullan of Harryville HPS wins 1st Combine, 2nd Section B and 18th Open NIPA 24,284 birds. Well done Bertie, always good for a 1st Combine winner.
