Brighter trade for good quality calved heifers at Markethill Mart, top price of £2120

An entry of 80 dairy stock at Markethill on Tuesday 16th April sold in a slightly brighter trade for good quality calved heifers, to a top price of £2120 which was paid to a local producer for a calved heifer.

The same owner received £1780, £1720 and £1700 for calved heifers.

A Whitecross farmer sold calved heifers at £1880, £1860, £1820 and £1730.

A Crossmaglen farmer received £1620 for a second calver and £1420 for a calved third calver.

An Aghalee farmer received £1620, £1520 for calved heifers.

A Cookstown farmer 2 calved heifers at £1690 and £1570.

A Banbridge farmer received £1950 each for 4 calved heifers.

Others sold from £1200 to £1500 each.

Cull cows

100 cull cows returned an exceptionally strong demand with beef bred cows selling to a top of £2290 for a 910k Limousin £250 from a Newry producer followed by £243 for 676k at £1640 from a Lisburn farmer.

Main demand for beef bred cows from £185 to £242 per 100 kilos.

Fleshed Friesians sold from £145 to £159 for 738k at £1170 from a Dungannon farmer followed by £158 for 660k at £1050 from a Tandragee farmer.

Second quality Friesians sold from £120 to £135 and the poorest types from £100 to £115 per 100 kilos.

Cull cows

Newry farmer 916k £2290 £250.00; Lisburn farmer 676k £1640 £243.00; Derrynoose farmer 698k £1690 £242.00; Armagh farmer 600k £1440 £240.00; Keady farmer 856k £2000 £234.00; Lisburn farmer 674k £1530 £227.00; Keady farmer 698k £1510 £216.00; Waringstown farmer 664k £1410 £212.00 and Cullyhanna farmer 698k £1460 £209.

Friesian cull cows

Calves

210 calves sold in a steady demand with good quality bull calves to £435 for a Belgian Blue followed by £430 for an Aberdeen Angus.

All good quality bulls sold from £260 to £400.

Plainer types from £170 to £230.

Heifer calves sold to £410 for an Aberdeen Angus followed by £330 for a Limousin.

All good quality heifers from £240 to £315 each.

Second quality heifer calves from £140 to £200 each.

Bull calves

Belgian Blue £435; Aberdeen Angus £430; Belgian Blue £400; Aberdeen Angus £380; Belgian Blue £375; Belgian Blue £375; Aberdeen Angus £375 and Aberdeen Angus £370.

Heifer calves

Aberdeen Angus £410; Simmental £330; Belgian Blue £315; Belgian Blue £295; Limousin £290; Aberdeen Angus £290; Hereford £255 and Aberdeen Angus £245.
