Busy times for Finvoy YFC

Finvoy YFC have been busy helping others over the past few months. In August the club donated three foot pump hand sanitisers to Finvoy Presbyterian Church to help keep the congregation safe and also club members safe when meetings resume.

Four members from the club received training and club Covid-19 officers are ensuring risk assessments are carried out, social distancing measures are put in place and cleaning of the hall is carried out to keep all meetings and members as safe as possible

In September members headed to Portstewart Strand to walk 5k and donate five pounds to Aware NI 
in the YFCU Mood Walk 
to raise money for mental health awareness. This was a great way to keep fit and active and also raise money for charity.

The club held the first club meeting of the year over Zoom informing members of all upcoming meetings and competitions.

Members took part in virtual competitions in demonstration presentation and public speaking in October.

Well done to club members Rachel Linton who got through to the final of the demonstration presentation in the 21-25 age category and Richard Beattie 
who got through to the final 
of the public speaking competition in the 25-30 age category.

The club had their first in person meeting which was a visit from Talking Reptiles who brought along lots of interesting creatures like turtles, tarantulas and other reptiles for members to see.

October saw the marriage of club member William Beattie to Judith Coleman. The club wishes the couple every happiness for the future.

October ended with the Co Antrim prize giving. Finvoy received prizes for arts festival gala 2019/20. Richard Beattie was awarded for 21-25 Impromptu public speaking and 21-25 dairy stock judging 2020 and William Beattie was awarded senior Ulster Young Farmer 2020.

In November, the club took part in the home management competition where members had to create a table centrepiece for a dinner party made out of recyclable household items, create an order of service for a dinner party and label the items of a traditional dinner party table setting.

In November, the club donated six contactless thermometers to six local primary schools.

The schools who received thermometers included: Carrowreagh Primary, Rasharkin Primary, St Patrick’s, Rasharkin, Eden Primary, Lislagan Primary and Garryduff Primary.

Finvoy YFC hope these help to keep staff and children safe during uncertain times.
