Charolais cattle still dominate at Ballyclare Mart suckled calf sales (November 1977)

The fifth special sale of single suckled calves in McCIelland’s Livestock Mart in Ballyclare, which was held during this week in November 1977, had attracted an entry of over 900 calves, reported Farming Life.

Prices were generally similar to the previous week but the quality was somewhat scarcer.

In the bullock ring Simmentals ousted the Charolais for the first time in the heavyweight section where three tremendous Simmentals offered by J Manderson, Crumlin. sold to a top price of £82.67 per 100kg.

However, generally Charolais continued to dominate the leading prices throughout the sale.
