Demand for Hereford sires exceeds supply

The Spring Sale in Dungannon yielded another 100% clearance for Hereford Bulls following on from the record breaking February Sale.

With a lot of bulls not present having already been sold only six went under auctioneer Trevor Wylie’s hammer to average £2853.

Leading the trade was rising three year old Thornbank 1 Romeo.

Bred by Hunter Stewart, Co Tyrone he was sired by the homebred Thornbank 1 Mighty Man and out of a homebred Solpoll 1 Dynamite dam he sold for 3100gns to join the Clogher Valley pedigree Herd of Ian Brown Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone.

Following closely behind at 3000gns was the youngest bull in the sale from John & William McMordie Co Down, the 15 month old Solpoll 1 Telstar, again having a Solpoll 1 Dynamite sired dam with the sire being Moeskaer Mentos he sold to John Wauchob, Co Tyrone.

Alex Ferguson Co Tyrone purchased the 19 month old Brookfield 1 Thor from Roy & Pat McClenaghen, Co Down.

This Moorside 1 Joseph son is out of a Wirruna Daffy sired dam he was a Superior Carcase Sire and sold for 2900gns.

The first bull into the ring sold at 2700gns for Mervyn & Henry Richmond, Corraback Nilo was sired by Kye Rodge and out of a Ballyaville Don dam and sold back to Co Fermanagh with John Gilleece.
