The Wilton Cross Homing Pigeon Society which was formed in 1996 recently moved its clubrooms to the beautiful Meadows Equestrian Centre situated at Oxford Island on the shores of Lough Neagh. They had previously been on the premises of the I.N.F. in North Street, Lurgan but had to vacate when an extension was planned by the club. The pigeon club had spent 30 happy years there and would like to thank Gary and his committee for their hospitality and support over the years. New premises had to be found in a hurry prior to this season and after hard work by chairman Alan Larkin in securing the new location, the day finally arrived when James McCrory, pigeon fancier and haulier from Dromore set about moving the two huts to the present spacious location.Sadly only three of the founder members are still racing in the club but several members have joined and next year the club will welcome one new starter and one fancier returning to the sport which is a promising sign. The members would like to express its gratitude to Mr. Hugh McCusker founder of M.E.C. for his kindness and generosity in allowing the members to join the community at M.E.C. The premises sit on 25 acres of beautiful countryside including an ornate lake with landscaped gardens including a cafe on site. This move to these premises should secure a promising future for the Wilton Cross HPS in what has been a very dissapointing year for the pigeon fraternity due to the Covid 19 situation and the poor weather.
