Good fencing makes for efficient dairy farming

As farmers prepare to move cattle outside for Spring, there has been a growing demand for robust fencing that can withstand both treacherous weather conditions and the rigours of farming life.

Ballymena dairy farmer Stephen Kennedy recently completed a stretch of fencing on his farm using a combination of Moore Concrete’s Ox Strain and Ox Posts.

Jonny McKinney was a recent visitor to the farm, he explained: “Concrete fencing is proving more and more popular on farms as it offers a durable, maintenance free fencing solution.”

The new Ox Post is the latest product innovation from Moore Concrete, inspired by the success of the Ox Strain Post. Each Ox Post is 1830mm (6’) in length and 75mm (3’) by 100mm (4’) wide. A key advantage of the OxPost is the fixing strip in the middle of the 75mm front face to allow fencing wire to be stapled directly to the post.

Each Ox Post weighs 28 kilograms and is rectangular in shape with a pointed end, making them easy to install. Both posts are CE Marked under BS EN12839 with a design life of 50 years for Ox Strain and up to 30 years for Ox Post.

Stephen Kennedy used 30 Ox Posts and 6 Ox Strain Posts to complete his fencing project. He commented: “The installation process was quick and painless as both the Ox Strain and Ox Posts were able to be driven in using a post driver. The fixing strip on the Ox Post also made it easy to staple the wire to the post.”

Ox Strain Posts come in a range of three lengths: 3050mm (10’); 2590mm (8’6”); and 2135mm (7’) and Ox Post length 1830mm (6’) to accommodate the wide range of ground conditions, from mossy sites to high quality mineral soils, that prevail across the UK & Ireland. Ox Strain can be used in conjunction with concrete struts to provide extra support and stability.

Notches for struts are cast into three sides as standard. To protect the top of the posts we recommend Top Hats for Ox Strain and Driving Cups for Ox Post are utilised during installation.

Jonny McKinney concluded: “Using a combination of both Ox Strain and Ox Post creates an extremely aesthetically pleasing finish when used on the same fencing project.”
