How green is your farm?

Two weeks ago the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster launched the competition ‘How Green Is Your Farm?’

Members were tasked with looking at their own farm enterprise and how they implement environmental sustainability.

Environmental sustainability focuses on four main aspects:

1 Building and maintaining healthy soil

2 Managing water wisely

3 Minimizing air, water and climate pollution

4 Promoting biodiversity

The winner of the competition was the Johnston brothers from Randalstown Young Farmers’ Club.

Judge Andrew Gracey from Ulster Wildlife said: “The Johnstons have showcased how their farming enterprise has both a connection with farming green and farming profitable which is what it’s all about.

“They hit on some important topics including: renewables, ammonia and biodiversity.”
