Injuries and illness sustained on the farm can ruin lives and businesses.

Farmers are the best placed people to make farms safer for themselves, their families and their employees. Compliance with health and safety is not optional, it’s a must.

Farmers can reduce the risk of serious incidents and are less likely to face formal enforcement action if they work safely.

Inspections are part of everyday life, and an Inspector will examine the workplace, the day to day activities and how health and safety is managed.

If standards are not being met, an enforcement action will be taken, as per the HSENI ‘Enforcement Guidelines for Health and Safety at Work NI’.

In conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive, Lantra has developed a one day training course - Lantra Awards Agriculture Health and Safety: Preparing for Inspection.

This classroom-based course covers a range of topics including working safely, falls from height and falling objects, livestock, vehicles and machinery, children, electricity, drowning and asphyxiation and HSE inspections and interventions.

The causes of accidents are well known and can be prevented, compliance with health and safety is key.
