HSENI having discussions with Moy Park after death of employee

The Health and Safety Executive has said it is having discussions with Moy Park to understand the circumstances surrounding the death of a worker due to Covid-19.

In a statement the HSENI said: “HSENI is currently carrying out unannounced inspections to businesses across Northern Ireland.

“Priority is being given to sectors such as food processing companies and sites where repeated complaints have been received. We can confirm that a recent unannounced inspection was carried out at a Moy Park meat processing plant. A few minor issues were found but the overall compliance with the PHA COVID-19 guidance was found to be of a high standard. This approach will continue.

“We would remind all employers that they have a legal obligation to provide a safe working environment for their staff. If employees or trade unions have concerns they are encouraged to contact HSENI at [email protected] or 0800 0320 121.

“Where it is known that a person who has had COVID-19 has been in a workplace the areas where they worked should be cleaned in accordance with PHA guidance which can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-decontamination-in-non-healthcare-settings/covid-19-decontamination-in-non-healthcare-settings.

“Where any organisation is dealing with an outbreak or a cluster of cases it should contact the Public Health Agency for advice and guidance on the steps it must take. The PHA can be contacted at 0300 555 0114 or https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/node/4802.

“The policy on testing for COVID-19 is set by the Public Health Agency and can be found at https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/covid-19-coronavirus/testing-covid-19,” the statement concluded.
