Kilrea YFC scoop best club of the year for 2019-2020

Last year was a difficult one for everyone to say the least and Kilrea YFC were honoured to be able to help those in the local community in whatever way they could.
Back in June, thanks to Power NI, Kilrea YFC received a grant to provide help to the local community.

In order to put this to good use, a cheque of £200 was presented to the Reverend Gary Millar of St Patrick’s Parish Church, Kilrea towards The Link Food Bank.
In July Charlotte Moon was placed first in the 12-14 age group of the beef stock judging competition and Melissa Sloan competed in the floral art finals.
In September, thanks to H A McIlrath, Kilrea YFC were able to hold their annual car wash in Kilrea Livestock Market yard.
October saw the long-awaited return of club meetings. Albeit on Zoom, members still fired up their laptops for the virtual quiz night and even a virtual Kilrea YFC bake off.

Jamie Cunningham, Adam Alexander and Adam McCormick also made it through to the final rounds in their respective age categories for the public speaking competition.
On November 16 Kilrea YFC were able to host the first face-to-face meeting in Kilrea Livestock Market which was the first heat of the home management competition.
Kilrea YFC were also honoured to present a cheque for £1,445.85 to Alzheimer’s society, the club’s charity of choice for 2019.
The YFCU president’s Christmas appeal this December was donating to local food banks and of course Kilrea were more than happy to contribute to a local food bank in Maghera.

In December junior members Niamh Brookman, Georgia Kearney and Jack Brownlie and seniors Matthew Gordon, Judith Laughlin, Sarah Lynch and Jamie Cunningham found out they will progress to the next round of the Ulster Young Farmer competition.
To round off the successful winter, the YFCU held their outdoor prize day where Melissa Sloan was crowned the best treasurer in Northern Ireland, Adam Alexander was placed third in the president’s award and Kilrea YFC were awarded best club in Northern Ireland for 2019-2020.
