Learning horse theory with Dr Helen Spence

CAFRE Enniskillen Campus Hosts BHS CPD Day with Dr Helen Spence 28 February 2020.

On Friday 28 February, Clinical Equine Behaviourist Dr Helen Spence will deliver an informative and interactive day at CAFRE Enniskillen Campus regarding learning theory and how horses learn best, writes Daria Fidgeon, BSc (Hons) Second Year Student.

Dr Helen Spence has a degree in psychology and a doctorate on ‘The influence of owner personality and attitudes on behaviour and temperament of the domestic horse’ and is an ABTC registered Clinical Animal Behaviourist, specialising in equines.

The course is aimed at a wide range of equine enthusiasts, suiting all levels and promises to be very beneficial to those riding their own horses, preparing for BHS Stages Qualifications and those looking to develop new ideas for coaching and teaching.

The course has been recognised as a CPD day for BHS, HSI and the Pony Club with CPD points awarded to those who attend.

The content of the course will include the interaction between learning, motivation, behaviour and safety, understanding learning theory  and its application to horse training, why an improved understanding will benefit training and coaching, leading to improved harmony and partnership between horse and rider or handler, and enhanced safety of all concerned.

After this course you will have a better understanding of training and coaching, which will lead to an improvement in the rapport and partnership between horse and rider.

This course will be of great benefit to all who train their own horses and particularly to those who are coaching and teaching clients.

The cost per person including lunch is £25.
