Markethill Mart: Dairy stock selling to a top of £1980

An entry of 400 cattle at Markethill on Tuesday 20th April maintained a very firm trade in all rings.

Dairy stock sold to a top of £1980 for a calved heifer from a Markethill farmer.

The same owner received £1900 for a calved heifer.

Others sold from £1050 to £1400.

An entry of maiden heifers from a Lurgan farmer sold from £580 to £720 each.

Cull cows

140 cull cows maintained a very strong trade with good quality beef bred cows from £160 to £193 per 100 kilos for 760k at £1485 from a Banbridge farmer followed by £192 per 100 kilos for 770k at £1485 from an Armagh farmer.

Fleshed Friesian cows sold from £125 to £147 per 100 kilos for 750k at £1105 from a Gilford farmer followed by £138 for 678k at £935 for a Poyntzpass farmer.

Second quality Friesian cows from £100 to £115 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £80 to £95 per 100 kilos.

Clean cattle sold to £227 per 100 kilos for 550k at £1255 from a Cookstown farmer followed by £225 per 100 kilos for 540k at £1225 from an Armagh producer.

A large entry of 250 calves and reared calves continued to sell in an excellent demand.

Good quality bull calves under six weeks sold steadily from £300 to £410 for a five week old Blue followed by £380 for a four week Fleckvieh.

Good quality heifer calves sold from £270 to £370 with a top price of £540 for a four week old Charolais.
