Mighty Hikers conquer Giant’s Causeway challenge, raising over £1.1 million for Macmillan

Some 2,473 hikers went the extra mile along the Giant’s Causeway on 20th June taking on a Macmillan Cancer Support Mighty Hike and raising an incredible £1,115,861 so far to help fund vital Macmillan information and support services for people living with cancer.

Walking 13 or 26 miles along the stunning coastline, hikers faced a physically demanding challenge, powered by personal reasons, determination and a shared commitment to support others.

The charity says the response from walkers has been fantastic.

Scott shared: “It was inspiring to be part of such a fantastic event, raising money for such a special charity. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success and such a memorable experience. We're sore, tired, and probably walking a little strangely today, but we're also incredibly proud to have been part of it.”

The number of people living with cancer in the UK is at a record high – almost 3.5 million – and is still rising. Cancer is the biggest challenge many people will ever face, and it can be made even tougher because of who you are, where you live, what you earn or how you communicate. Every penny raised by mighty hikers will help Macmillan go the extra mile to do whatever it takes for people living with cancer, whoever and wherever they are.

Macmillan Mighty Hikes are a series of one-day half and full marathon fundraising hikes, running from May to September in some of the UK’s most beautiful locations. This year, hikes are taking place across 12 stunning locations in all four UK nations.

Last year, an incredible team of more than 35,000 hikers took part raising a record-breaking £15 million during the event’s 10th anniversary year. Since 2015, Mighty Hikes has raised an incredible £85 million to support people living with cancer.
