New life on the farm

There are lots of thing on the farm that I love but springtime on the farm is my favourite. I love the Spring when everything comes to life and starts to grow.

On my farm we have lots of sheep and I love seeing the new baby lambs being born and getting out to the fields. This year I was able to help move the sheep and lambs out of the lambing shed and into the fields. I got my

boiler suit on every day and helped give the sheep and lambs some silage and water.

This year I was really excited to get a pet lamb of my own which I have named ‘Jonny’. I had to help my daddy make a pen for him and put straw into it. I have always wanted a pet lamb and this year I eventually got one!! It is a good time for me to have a pet lamb to look after as I am not at school because of Lockdown and I have to feed my lamb three times a day. My pet lamb really wags his tail when getting fed. I set my alarm every morning to make sure I get up to feed him on time! Now that he is a bit bigger I also feed him with pellets and water. I love seeing the happy sheep and lambs jumping through the fields.

Chirp, chirp, chirp are the sounds I hear as I cycle up my lane on my bicycle. More new life on the farm! I have been waiting patiently for a couple of weeks for the new chicks to arrive. I was allowed to stay up late and wait for them to come to the farm. They were so cute, fluffy and yellow and not even a day old when they arrived.

There were thousands of them. We had to make sure the hen houses were nice and warm for the wee chicks. It was a very warm job helping to carry the chicks into their new home. I was so tired I had a good lie in the next morning! I love going up the lane to check on the wee chicks every day, they are so cute now. My daddy and I give them water every day and make sure that they are all ok and doing well.

I have been really lucky since I have been off school and I got to see a calf being born. This was amazing to see. The baby calf was a Holstein girl which pleased my daddy. I called her Daisy. I have been watching Daisy grow and I help to feed her every day. Daisy is now in a pen of straw in the calf shed and I love it when she sucks my fingers! One of my jobs is to give my calf new straw for its bed to make it cosy.

Springtime on the farm is a very exciting time and this year I have been at home to enjoy it even more. I love living on a farm and this year has definitely been an exciting Spring!
