Power NI kit out Ballynahinch donkeys

The Ballynahinch based donkey organisation received a community grant through Power NI’s staff sponsorship scheme, ‘Helping Hands’. The staff initiative enables Power NI employees to nominate local organisations to receive funding.

Thanks to the nomination by Power NI employee, Mark Wiggins, Kinedale Donkeys will purchase two small sized carriage driving harnesses, which will be used for future exhibitions and training when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.

Kinedale Donkeys is located on a former dairy farm in Ballynahinch, which held up to one hundred Jersey cows at one time.

The Wallace family who run Kinedale Donkeys, are passionate about caring for donkeys and promoting the therapeutic benefits of donkey assisted therapy for improving emotional and mental wellbeing.

Thanks to the donation from Power NI, the family run organisation can continue to support the animals on their farm and educate others on donkeys.

Appreciative of the funding, Mark Wiggins comments: “We are delighted to have been able to assist Kinedale Donkeys with a financial contribution that will be used towards the costs of much needed equipment for the farm. Kinedale Donkeys provide 
invaluable support but perhaps most importantly, a safe and fun environment for the animals in which they look after.

“Organisations like this are so important and we at Power NI are delighted to play our part in helping out through our very own Helping Hands Scheme.”

Robert Wallace, owner of Kinedale Donkeys also commented: “We at Kinedale Donkeys in Ballynahinch want to extend our deepest thanks to PowerNI and their fantastic Helping Hands initiative. We are a family run organisation and with the current climate funding has been difficult, with the future of the farm uncertain.

“The purchase of two sets of carriage driving harnesses will allow us to take part in more events in the future.”
