Saintfield Christmas charity Santa Ride

The 2020 Saintfield Christmas charity Santa Ride will take place on Saturday 5th December.
Last year the charity ride was raising the money for a bore hole in Uganda in Pius Kulama’s village to provide the people with fresh clean water as the children had to walk a very long distance to fetch water from a stream which was dirty and shared with cows and other animals. That has now been completed and this year the organisers of the charity ride move on to the next phase of this Ugandan projectLast year the charity ride was raising the money for a bore hole in Uganda in Pius Kulama’s village to provide the people with fresh clean water as the children had to walk a very long distance to fetch water from a stream which was dirty and shared with cows and other animals. This year the charity ride will be going back to it’s original venue at Andrews Yard, 50, Lisburn Road, Saintfield.

The Santas will meet again as usual at 11.00am for a mulled wine and mince pie reception.

The ride is scheduled to leave the yard at 12 noon and will also follow the original route from nine years ago.

Leaving the yard turning right and turning right again at the roundabout heading for Ballynahinch, turn left into the Drumnaconnel Road and left again into the Plantation Road, at the end turn left again into the Listooder Road heading towards Saintfield and turn right into the Old Grand Jury Road and left into Main Crossgar - Saintfield Road and finally left into Saintfield Main Street at the traffic lights and back to the yard.

This year due to Covid 19 guide lines organisers have been asked to take entries on line to restrict the amount of money being handled on the day and to keep a record of entries so organisers of the charity ride are asking you to be
kind enough to make your entries if possible on line via the link by Friday, 4th December.

Ride organiser, Joan Cunningham wishes to thank her brother Gordon Andrews for the use of his premises and also thank Prime Shine Car Wash and Valeting Services for very kindly closing their business for the day to facilitate the Christmas charity ride.

As most people will remember last year the charity ride was raising the money for a bore hole in Uganda in Pius Kulama’s village to provide the people with fresh clean water as the children had to walk a very long distance to fetch water from a stream which was dirty and shared with cows and other animals.

That has now been completed and this year the organisers of the charity ride move on to the next phase of this Ugandan project.

Now that the community have fresh water Pius Kulama’s dream is to purchase land and provide a maize milling factory where the local people who are mostly farmers can bring their crops and have them processed into flour.

At present a middle man comes and buys the crops of them for very little money which leaves them short of funds to buy flour to feed their children.

The factory will provide employment to the local people and supply food to other communities.

The organisers of the Saintfield Christmas Charity Ride appeal for your support to make Pius’ s dream a reality.

The cost of the ride will be £20 for adults and £10 for children
